A Special Statement From Oldies Radio The Wheel
On Monday June 29, 2009 Oldies Radio The Wheel announced on the air an appeal for raising funds to continue operating the radio station. This rather unconventional step was taken after considering for a number of weeks the best way to address Oldies Radio's financial challenges in the present economy.
Because the previous 'run' of the station ended without warning to the listeners, we decided to say something about it now and offer listeners the opportunity to take action IF they feel the station is worthy of their support.
Oldies Radio returned to the airwaves of Dothan in the late summer of 2008 on 700 AM. On September 27, 2008, the AM was launched as a simulcast on 100.1 FM. In the same month, the national economy took a turn for the worse. Since that time, Oldies Radio has sought to be prudent with its limited capital in an effort to build advertising clients and revenues to offset these start-up costs but the goals have not been reached.
Therefore, we have arrived at a place where our capital is nearly gone and present advertising revenues are not quite able to support the station.
We have sliced costs and gone as 'lean and mean' as possible. Our staff is working for very modest wages and the owner has yet to pay himself since coming here last September. We're as tight as we can be.
We're asking friends and supporters of Oldies Radio to consider a donation to the station to keep it going. We're asking that all checks be made out to 'Oldies Radio WEEL'. Checks can be deposited at any branch of Regions Bank or sent to Oldies Radio, Post Office Box 1303, Dothan 36302.
A determination will be made on or before July 31, 2009 regarding the continuance of WEEL AM-FM as an Oldies formatted station.
Until that decision is made, any and all checks received will be held in escrow.
Thank you for your interest in Oldies Radio The Wheel.
